Desyee Dixon is a Trauma Transformer and Change Point Expert.

Desyree Dixon, LCSW-C, a multi-award-winning trauma therapist in the Mid-Atlantic region, believes in the dual power of Empathy and Joy to improve people and organizations. Her clients named her the “Trauma Transformer” and a “change point expert” because of her boundless passion for helping people and companies heal from painful experiences and navigate difficult transition periods.

Desyree is the Founder and CEO of Bolton Therapy & Wellness, an award-winning private group practice, where she and her team work to support the healing of individuals, couples, and families in the Baltimore-DC metro region. She also is the Founder and CEO of Whew! Corporation, a psychological consulting firm that works with organizations to enhance company and staff performance, improve employee mental health and wellness, address workplace and school trauma, and support diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging (DEIB) strategy and implementation. She provides coaching services to executives and their organizations.

 
 

Desyree currently serves on the inaugural Baltimore City Trauma Informed Care Task Force, which is working to make Baltimore the first trauma-informed city in the country and already is serving as a model for other cities. She served as the Trauma Informed Care Coordinator for Baltimore City Head Start. She also is an executive Advisor for SEEHER, an organization dedicated to improving the images of women and girls in the entertainment and advertising arenas.

 

Prior to starting her private practice, Desyree was a researcher at the University of Maryland. She is trained in several modalities used to treat complex trauma as well as “recent events" traumas including pandemics, natural disasters, terrorist attacks and school shootings. She offers trainings and seminars to other therapists on best practices in treating trauma, including courses in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), BrainSpotting and Identity-Based Trauma (IBT). She has created an innovative therapeutic framework for Identity Based Trauma called Trauma Based Identity Distressors (TBID). TM

 
 

Desyree graduated with honors from both Georgetown University and the University of Maryland School of Social Work. She received her training as a family trauma specialist from the John’s Hopkins University School of Medicine affiliate Kennedy Krieger Institute. She is currently a Doctoral candidate at the University of Southern California with a concentration in Organizational Change and Leadership. Her research at USC focuses on validating the framework she developed as a treatment for Identity-Based Trauma. She is particularly interested in furthering her work with organizations in the public and private sectors to help them understand how Identity-Based Trauma profoundly impacts learning and performance.

 

Desyree has been featured by the Baltimore Business Journal, Entrepreneur Magazine, CHIEF, and the Minority Report Podcast. She is a contributor to Baltimore television stations including WBFF and MPT/PBS (Maryland Public Television), radio stations NPR, WFBR and WEAA. She was recently featured in Baltimore Magazine’s “Top Doctors 2020.” Since 2016, her practice has been repeatedly recognized as one of the best in Baltimore.

 
 

Desyree delivers inspiring presentations that are insightful and engaging. She was honored to be the 2021 Keynote Speaker for the AdColor Conference and Awards and will lead a specially curated workshop at the upcoming 2022 AdColor Conference. AdColor is the premier diversity gathering of professionals at all levels in the advertising, social media, entertainment, and music industries. Desyree is passionate about healing both people and organizational pain; promoting empathy and joy; fostering DEIB; and forging impactful partnerships with clients to create their best lives.
